John T. Clarke...before you decide to slander me.. I suggest you read my prior posts.. buddy everything I post is factual and truthful.. I have no reason to decieve, deny or hid anything..you say "we need more candor".. are you implying that I am lying.. buddy I post my trades real time before and after..I did cover the 15,000 shares of AIG with options today.. did not think anyone was so minutely dissecting every trades I make..

Here are the covering of the AIG stocks.. since I still own them.. there is no loss. As I said.. if a position is down 3% I will hold and cover..

I did manage to continue to succesfully trade the heck out of thousands of more shares of AIG.. after the intial buy...see end of post..and I did manage to successfully cover the 15000 shares with options after down a few percentage points..yes I did manage to make a significant profit on the other shares of AIG as well...

Also the core 40000 UNG with the January 08 options resulted in a net unrealized gain of $26,000 today

>>> how is that a great job of day trading? <<<

I was referring to his results for the week, not specifically the trade with AIG and BHI on that specific day.

He did mention a trade he screwed up because he didn't stick with his plan, if I recall correctly. I thought he did a great job of recovering from that in a very short time.

>>> You gave us a list of mutual funds and ETFs recently that you said contain the bulk of your retirement assets. PRNEX EEM UMESX EEB PRLAX OBCHX EPP <<<

I stopped myself out of EEM, EEB and EPP for little to no gain. I reduced my positions in PRNEX, PRLAX and OBCHX. I am holding 1/2 positions in each. I'm hoping to build those positions back up, but not yet.

I am down close to 10% on the year. I haven't done much trading as the swing trade from the long side hasn't been there. I have made some swing trades from the short side which have helped my portfolio from falling further. I just haven't traded that much due to travel.

The day trade set up has been the most successful set ups according to some people I know. I just haven't spent the computer time to follow through on them myself.

>>> I just feel that we get a distorted picture of overall performance when we only hear about the good stuff. <<<

I agree with you! That's why I posted every trade I made, in advance, including position size, for almost two years on the Strictly Buy And Sell Set Ups thread. People were able to judge the success of the swing trade set ups as I presented them daily. The failures were there along with the successes. I wish more people would explain their set ups in advance instead of after the fact. It would provide more value to everyone, in my opinion.

John TC, (partly OT) -- The energy markets have become far too volatile for me to stomach at this point and I have been aggressively selling a lot of my positions in recent weeks, and have done very little buying, comparatively speaking. When we see E&P stocks regularly trading at about triple (or more) the daily % move in the underlying oil & gas commodity prices, it tells me that the market has become too schizophrenic for me. I don't mind a mild degree of schizophrenia (that can actually be good) but when it gets this extreme its too much to take.

I strongly believe that we are seeing energy stocks get hit by a triple whammy of sorts, viz.:

1) Long-time energy investors finally cashing in on multi-year, multi-bagger gains from the energy bull market that has ensued over these last 5 years or so,

2) Sells by folks who bought energy stocks within the last year who are mostly selling for tax reasons, and

3) Short-selling by folks who missed this massive multi-year
energy bull market, who are trying to make the best of a missed call by shorting on the backside of it.

I now am sitting on a ton of cash in both my own and my wife's retirement accounts and, on a net basis, have a very modest amount of net margin debt in my non-retirement accounts, which, together with my home mortgage, is likely to become fully paid off in a matter of months if not weeks. Which finally brings me to the reason I addressed this post to yours -- can anyone offer some good ideas for low-risk income-oriented investments, both in a tax-deferred account and in a taxable account?

I have not really paid much attention to these sorts of investments for many years (in fact it has been decades), and when I started to do some homework on these the other day I was stunned by the plethora of funds, ETF's, etc. out there. I then took out a premium subscription to Morningstar, and that has helped somewhat but I'm still quite bedazzled by all the choices that are out there now.
