The English, and many European nations actually, have a cultural sophistication we Americans just do not have. It may be your cultural diffusion?? The Scandanavian countries are light years ahead of everyone e.g. Sweden and Denmark. Some feel the reason the French are so far ahead of us culturally is because they had their revolution before we did and they were the culture that refined existentialism for the world. With regard to the English, it may be your sense of humor. Humor requires the juxtapostion of reality, so you folks have practise in thinking multi diminsionally. Whether you know it or not-lol. And The Canadians and Kiwi's are much more mature than we are, but I am not sure why? The Aussies live in the same intellectual cave we yanks live in-lol. Very few in our country know about the southern chain gangs, but someone recently wrote a very good book describing what happened. The great columnist Lenord Pitts (one of the top ten IMO) wrote a wonderful book review on it recently.
