Religion is rife with fakery, con men, false prophets and hypocrites. I had one personal experience when I was in college and working one summer for a photography studio.
We were contracted to take pictures at a tent revival that was in Little Rock, AR. It was a large event, packed with people and pretty typical of the ones seen in movies. One gallon buckets were passed back and forth through the crowd for contributions. We took all kinds of pics and left when the service was over.

The next day the preacher and another pulled up in a very nice car, dressed in fine clothes with flashy jewelry, grinning like two possums, joking with the staff. It was exactly like in the movies and we all later commented at how blatant this group was in showing their hypocrisy. (The night before their whole group looked like a bunch of unkempt rag-tags.)

They paid off the remainder of the bill with rolls of cash, took their pictures and drove off. My boss put two of the pictures on the wall behind his desk to remind him, as he said, that if you live long enough you'll see everything.
