A person can start their spiritual journey with a 'borrowed testimony' which might include accepting to some extent the revelations of another. This is the case with raising children in a particular faith.

At some point man almost always goes out on his own so to speak to nail down what he himself believes.

It is the believing in other people's revelations that causes most of the problems I see.

Definitely. The Jones cult that drank the poisoned kool-aid.
Watch out for 'False prohets.....by their fruits ye shall know them'....some fruit there. What could those people been thinking?

I like the admonition from an old Methodist minister: "When somebody says 'God told me to tell you to do something... vote with your feet!'
