No. The Balinese was on the east end. It had a colorful history.

As far as the west end, well, that was inevitable. Except for hurricanes, the Gulf is fairly low energy. As a result, there is little slope to the beach face. It only rises a few inches to the dunes. And they usually aren't much more than a meter high.

So there just isn't any protection. I don't know what the surge was on the west end, but even if it was half what it was on the east end, and that isn't likely, that would put waves at those structures.

And it isn't easy to design a structure that can stand up to that. And if you did, it wouldn't be pretty.
