Following her selection last month as John McCain's running mate, aides said Palin had traveled to Ireland, Germany, Kuwait, and Iraq to meet with members of the Alaska National Guard. During that trip she was said to have visited a "military outpost" inside Iraq. The campaign has since repeated that Palin's foreign travel included an excursion into the Iraq battle zone. boston.com

In her ABC interview Thursday night with Charlie Gibson, Palin did not mention Iraq when talking about the trip saying she visited the troops in Kuwait and then visited injured soldiers in Germany. Today, the Palin camp responded that the Vice-Presidential nominee did cross into Iraq, but it was a quick trip: “Last summer, Governor Palin traveled to Kuwait where she visited Alaskan National Guard troops deployed to the war in Iraq at Camp Arifjen. While she was there she traveled to the K Crossing on the Kuwait-Iraq border, and a quarter mile into Iraq. According to the General who traveled with her, while she was there she presided over a re-enlistment ceremony of an Alaskan National Guard soldier. En route back to the United States, she traveled to the Ramstein Air Base in Germany. While in Germany, Governor Palin visited wounded soldiers at the Landstuhl military hospital. She then returned home. She also visited Canada, as well as Mexico for a vacation.” Palin also claimed to have been to Ireland on the same Middle East trip, but it turned out merely to be a re-fueling stop. Palin has faced criticism for her limited travel outside of the United States and for obtaining her first passport last year. Tommy Vietor, Obama campaign spokesman responded strongly to the initial report that Palin did not cross the border into Iraq: “The McCain campaign said Governor Palin opposed the Bridge to Nowhere, but now we know she supported it. They said she didn’t seek earmarks, but now we know she hired a lobbyist to get millions in pork for her town and her state. They said she visited Iraq, but today we learned that she only stopped at the border. Americans are starting to wonder, is there anything the McCain campaign isn’t lying about?”

That's right.....it wasn't the McCain campaign....it was one of her aides: "Palin officials originally said her itinerary included U.S. military installations or outposts in Germany and Kuwait, and that she had visited Ireland. A Palin aide in Alaska had said Iraq was also one of the military stops on that trip." Why is it that Palin and her aides can't keep their stories straight......or is lying chronic among the GOP? But the Obama campaign, in seizing on this (in desperation), is lying, as neither Palin nor the campaign has ever stated or suggested she went to Iraq. They are seizing upon it because there is so much posturing and misrepresentation coming out about this woman. I understand she has a rather weak background and has done some questionable things in her climb to the top but trying to hide all that crap and lying about her experiences just makes her look worse. Why do you people prefer inferior people?
