Why would one need to believe in it? Why not just leave the entity question open- as any scientist would?

I don't think it's a majority of The Biggies. People often try to use Einstein as an example of the theistic scientist (for example)- but really his idea of "God" was more like a unified field theory. If that's all the notion of God is, than I suspect it's out there too- I simply see no evidence for anything personal in the universe- I do not see any evidence for personal Gods or demons, or supernatural entities that deny the laws of the universe. However if you postulate something that IS the law of the universe- like electricity, rather than a cosmic daddy, than yes, I could look in to that- but I still wouldn't believe it without proof. No good scientist should do that with their science hat on. And once you take the science hat off, what good are you?
