Yes, I agree.

Still seems like silly spin to try to take away from the fact that Palin doesn't know much about foreign policy. By going on the attack here, however, may be a strategic mistake by attracting more attention to this rather than letting it die down.

Neal, let me do this another way, in terms of James Fallows' argument, the one I posted a couple of days back. He argues that we should pick as a vp only folk who are deeply immersed in these issues, rather than folk who have, at best, a casual understanding. On those grounds, Palin might have said, "Charlie (to reiterate the constant "Charlie) bit), Charlie, which statement do you mean. He's said these several differing things. Which did you have in mind?"

Instead, it was clear that, taught as she was, by the McCain handlers, to answer questions they had prepped her for, rather than drawing on nonexistent prior knowledge, she was caught. They had not thought to prep her on the issue of preemptive invasions.
