The Dem plan is suffering it's own problems.

The republican and democratic parties are the same today. They both want more power, which is only possible by increasing the size of government...government growth is irresponsible and yet partisans turn their heads and make excuses, or even worse, simply point fingers at the opposition. Sorry, they both are responsible, and partisans are enabling it.

"Anyone who believes that Republicans really want smaller government is living in a fantasy world."

For perhaps the first time I agree with you. That simple fact is the reasons why the dems now control the house and senate and may win in November. Sadly, one can rest assure in 4 years it will be clear that government by Harry, Nancy and Barack will dwarf Republican spending.

I used to say on to 2010. I now believe McCain can credibly run on this issue and win. The failure of Republicans to govern as Republicans is very sad to me.

Here's one Republican who wants smaller government, and I worked for the federal government my entire career. I think the government should limit its activity to National Defense, managing and building infrastructure that serves everyone (roads, bridges, etc.), managing federally owned natural resources, and so forth.
