A diesel nozzle will not fit into the smaller diameter filler neck of any vehicle that requires unleaded gas. Pretty hard to screw up there..

On the other side, there's no realistic way to prevent someone from putting gasoline into a diesel tank. Big rigs have filler openings on their diesel tanks that are around 3 inches wide..
