Jobs Americans won't do category:Mexican Makes NY Times Investment No American Will Do

by Scott Ott for ScrappleFace

(2008-09-11) — Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim Helú has stepped up to do a job that most Americans are no longer willing to do, buying a 6.4 percent stake in The New York Times Co., the newspaper which has struggled for several years with declining readership, ad revenue and stock price.

Times publisher Arthur Ochs Sulzberger Jr. , expressed his gratitude to the Mexican mogul, adding that the Bush administration should take steps to make it easier for foreigners to do everything from picking lettuce and mowing lawns, to installing roofing and rescuing mainstream media companies.

Mr. Sulzberger said he doesn’t expect the new shareholder to push for any major changes in news content, other than translating each story into “America’s second native tongue” Spanish.
