Bill - There's an issue regarding the 'bridge to nowhere' I don't believe many people know about.

One of the most important Acoustic underwater measurement facilities in the world is located near Ketchikan, Alaska. The U.S. submarine force uses it all the time and it is a critical facility. The facility brings contractors to and from the range all the time. They often stay in Ketchikan in the evenings, when conducting tests on the range. This steady flow of contractors is no doubt important to businesses in Ketchikan. Especially, during the months when the temperature is extremely cold and no tourists visit the hotels etc.

The bridge (if built), would help allow people to come and go from the area, because it connects the airport to the city, and the city to the range.

What's my point? The bridge to nowhere actually goes somewhere. And there can be made a good case that it's needed.

Just an FYI. Because I have used the range many times.

Look up SEAFAC on the web if you're interested.
