I was a proud forester for 38 years. First service was 1962 as a fire lookout. Last year of service was 2003 as Regional Inventory Specialist.

I considered myself a silviculturist, a forester who specializes in growing and tending stands of trees. I take pride and a good deal of faith in knowing that the forest stands I put my footprints in will be benefit of grandchildren's grandchildren.

Never a ranger. That is a title held by the line officer responsible for a Ranger District, which is usually an area of national forest 50,000 to 250,000 acres in size.
