Regarding the stream title, "Booms busts and recoveries", it is fair to say this is the "bust" phase rather than boom or recovery.

QCOM was the only green item on the list of ticker symbols I watch. Now gone red too [albeit barely down]. What a lot of disappointment there is that the Fed didn't helicopter in another $20 bn or so.

"Oh, oh, we are on our own here. No free lunch." So down it all goes.

Perversely, the refusal to throw more money at the sale of Lehman Brothers might give confidence in that it's not too big to fail so is not considered to offer a systemic risk and therefore there's no need to worry.
