I gather from your responses that you differentiate between brands of Islamic Terrorists. No, not between brands. They're all the enemy in my book. What I differentiate is between labels. I differentiate concepts and things and apply their labels with some care depending on the context. So if I mean "Islamic terrorists," I say "Islamic terrorists," not "the enemies who planned and carried out and rejoiced in the death of thousands of Americans." If I say "the enemies who planned and carried out and rejoiced in the death of thousands of Americans," I'm talking about Osama and company. It's the same as when I mean "vegetables," I say "vegetables," not "broccoli." "Broccoli" is a subset of "vegetables" as "Osama and company" is a subset of Islamic terrorists. The set and the subset are not interchangeable. If you're speaking to convey information to the mind, that is. If you're speaking to the emotions of kindred spirits, then you pick the most arousing words, precision suffers, but nobody notices. You've gotten your message across in other ways. Unfortunately, in an election campaign, there are multiple audiences for speeches. Some in the audience are listening with their nuanced minds and parsing your words.
