"And what if Obama wins? The last time a Democrat won after a resurgence of the culture war right, we got eight years of madness, . . .

Actually, what we go, above and beyond the sturm and drung (or whatever) was reasonably good government and a reasonably good economy for 8 years.

To go back to basics, McCain promised a clean, above board campaign about the issues. He failed to do that. Went dirty. Because he was losing a clean, above board campaign about the issues.

There was an ever so slight hope that he would not go to the dark side. He did. Obama, to his credit, resisted well past the point he should. And may still be resisting for all I know.

>>The last time a Democrat won after a resurgence of the culture war right, we got eight years of madness, climaxing in an impeachment spectacle unlike anything we'd seen in a century. If it happens again, with the lunatic brigade newly empowered and shrieking for blood, Obama will be another Clinton and we'll be in for another eight years of near psychotic dementia."<<

Karen -

I'm not sure what Kurtz is talking about. During the Clinton Administration we had a period of relative peace and prosperity. We even go some welfare reform. We had budget surpluses.

I guess he must be referring to the Republican's rather bizarre and obsessive hatred of Clinton, and their unflagging efforts to bring him down however they could.
