Voting for lipstick on a pit bull seems about as daft as it gets

Otherwise reasonable people do not see it as we do.

I am in a minority within my party.

So what.

The reason a Presidential candidate picks a certain individual as a running mate has traditionally been very simple: to help gather votes within a difficult and important state or region. Afterwards, the VPs are put on ice.

But there are two facts which militate against this in this instance: McCain's age and Cheney's transformation of the position. I dare not mention a third consideration, but I will for I think it is foolish to ignore it: the fact that in this day and age the President's life is not nearly as secure as it once was. Thus, in my estimation the selection of a VP in this election is particularly important. The possibility that an individual with absolutely no expierence and precious little education might be President terrifies me.

She has said or implied some very stupid things such as not having a problem with starting a shooting war with Russia over Georgia if Ga. is a NATO member because treaty obligations would require it.

Anyone who wishes to see Ga. a NATO member is insane, I think, for it is the 1960s equivalent of having Mexico or Puerto Rico join the Warsaw Bloc and expect the US not to be extremely concerned.

She had no idea what the Bush Doctrine was or the fact that under international law the rights the Doctrine asserts are protected anyway.

In short, a rube who threatens to become a bull in a china shop if the right wrong things occur.

I do not support Obama, either. I do think that McCain is a decent and honorable man, but his judgment has to be questioned. I also don't care for the campaign is running. I hoped that the divisiveness and partisanship would be toned down a bit, that substantive matters on the table would get the exposition they deserve. Silly me.
