Oh, I think it's the classic bit of the comparative frame. If your comparative frame is the 60s, then I'm right with you. If your comparative frame is, let's say the 80s forward, then I don't think I so much as disagree as am bothered by the gathering strength of opposition to affirmative action, to gay rights, to abortion rights, to gun controls, levered within a combination economy/government which increases income and wealth inequality into dangerous levels. So, just a quick guess. We are looking at slightly different htings and using different frames. As for being older, depends on the day of the week and the mood of the moment. ;-)
