Hell... I think of that is a big HO HUM!!!! I mean who cares about this: <The centerpiece of Carter's foreign policy was human rights, and he did achieve one noble success—a peace treaty between Egypt's Anwar Sadat and Israel's Menachem Begin. Carter objected to the Shah's alleged mistreatment of imprisoned Soviet spies who were working to overthrow Iran's government. He thought the exiled Ayatollah Khomeini, being a religious man, would make a fairer leader. > HUH?!? I was a supervisor working for the university food service and in charge of a handful of Iranian Students (very highly educated grad students working in a kitchen in order to stay in the US) who wanted to defect here because of the Nazi like Savak police the Shah had released on his own people. They said it was a matter of time and attended many rallies on campus trying to shed light on the plight of Iranians liberties at the hands of the Shah. They were well aware that extremists were using US support for him to whip up the masses and wanted to bring the truth to smart people (University campus'). This is typical "linear thinking" by dopy right wingers... SO THAT WAS HIS MOST DAMAGING MISCALCULATION.... I'd say we could use that kind of straight forward policy LONG TERM and we wouldn't end up in bed with all these ASS HOLES like Saddam and the SHAH. This piece is incredibly lame. <But that's not all. After Carter met for the first time with Soviet leader Leonid Brezhnev, the USSR promptly invaded Afghanistan. > Oh, THAT worked out well for them!!!!!! SO WHAT! This is exactly why a lot of people know somewhere inside them that RON PAUL is right! This stupid war helped implode the S. Union. <In spite of this, Carter's last defense budget proposed spending 45% below pre-Vietnam levels for fighter aircraft, 75% for ships, 83% for attack submarines and 90% for helicopters. > So what... what we needed was INTELLIGENCE... not weapons. He saved us a bunch of money clearly since we never used any of that stuff. <Years later, as a civilian, Carter negotiated a peace agreement with North Korea to keep that communist country from developing nuclear weapons. He also convinced President Clinton and Secretary of State Madeleine Albright to go along with it.> Yea, right except Regan was in between there...OOOPS! Who is this DOLT!!?? What a joke. <On the domestic side, Carter gave us inflation of 15%, the highest in 34 years; interest rates of 21%, the highest in 115 years; and a severe energy crisis with lines around the block at gas stations nationwide. > Oppps, hate to let BIG FAT FACTS get in the way of a good story, but the price of oil went from like ONE DOLLAR to $30..... then Carter promptly put US ENERGY mandates in place to make sure we would never again become beholding to the ME oil mongers! Oh... yea, Regan rolled those back... oppps! As for all the rest of that FNM crap... sorry dude, get a chart of Fannie's balance sheet........ IT EXPLODED in the last 10 years. Lack of regulation. Nice try dude... that guy was pretty freakin ignorant though, a dope born every minute it seems. He obviously listened to too many DAN QUAYLE election time speeches. DAK
