What I see is that you do, indeed, understand the utility of differentiation and have the capability to apply it when you so choose.

In this case, attacks by Islamic terrorists are the set and those that "happened someplace else" are the subset. Now, if you were giving a speech to deploying troops, presumably you would not use the words for the subset when the category you really meant was the set. <g>
