Article up in Alaska today:

Walt Monegan lost his job as public safety commissioner because he resisted Gov. Sarah Palin's budget policies and ultimately showed "outright insubordination," say papers the governor's lawyer filed today with the state Personnel Board.

The filing includes a slew of e-mails from top Palin aides, including one from her budget director, Karen Rehfeld, saying she was "stunned and amazed" that Monegan appeared to be working with a state legislator to seek funding for a project Palin had previously vetoed.

Big if, but if Palin can make the end run charge stick, it is game over for Monegan.

>>the problem she really faces is the journalists digging up all the details of her two periods in office.<<

I knew this problem was coming, and brought it up several times on Lindy's thread without getting much response. If the McCain team had spent more time, they could have meshed the McCain/Palin story better and avoided some of this trouble.

The Monegan firing is a self-inflicted wound. She shouldn't have rocked the boat while she was under consideration for VP. The backstory is that she was spending most of her time on pipeline issues, and not dealing enough with the commissioners, legislators, and mayors. So her initial claim that she fired Monegan because she wanted "a new direction" for Public Safety brought a round of incredulous guffaws. The whole Alaska political establishment was wondering: Why did she really fire Monegan?
