HSBC ? While they have moved some headquarters functions to the UK, I would expect that the PRC government would intervene first.

I think China built up that huge reserve of US Dollars to back up their banks, among other reasons.

Too much of TJ's gloom & doom...

$40 billion would bail out Brazil or Mexico in the good old days! and by th way we paid every cent of it! Interest and principal. There was no debt relief.

when the institutions fall
hard stuff will reign supreme
hard stuff that generates a yield
and hard stuff that has intrinsic value
naturally
because paper is worth-less even as institutions become worthless

just in in-tray watch and brief, wastrels selling family jewels

Understand that icbc bank now nego to buy aig's aircraft lease group called ilfc.

Follows similar move by bank of china to buy singapore aircraft leasing last year, but the scale was much smaller

I would guess thatilfc is a 50+ bill co.

But is 10x better use of china's foreign reserves that buying t bills. At least get to own a bunch of aluminum at end of day.

By the way , I expect that we will see similar trend in shipping as chinese buy up assets. Uses up those usd before they become useless
