YES...

Back in 1980 the TRUE Democrats (as they considered themselves) fully supported Ted Kennedy because they felt he was the person that REALLY represented their values. That essentially "split" the Party and made sure Reagan got elected.
Reagan gave us "borrow and spend" economics and the massive DEBT that we see in all sectors of the U.S. today.

Democrats have this Don Quixote thing where they pick their PERFECT candidate and all the pragmatics of politics be damned.

Then when things go "to hell in a handbasket" they just blame all the "dumb" people that voted for the other guy rather than wondering if they might not have had a better "compromise candidate" that wouldn't have been perfect but still would have supported 85% of what they wanted in the first place.
