Sorry, religion in the USA is private, not public.

I agree with that, and wish it never came up in our elections.

If you asked me twenty years ago if I would vote for a Muslim, I would say 'it depends.' Now, because of recent history, I am uncomfortable with the idea. It will take me a while to get over that.

I would vote for Bobby Jindal, who has a Hindu heritage, if I'm not mistaken. I would vote for Joe Lieberman, a Jew, assuming that I did not prefer his opposition. I would vote for a Catholic. I would vote for an agnostic or even an atheist, presuming that he kept his beliefs to herself.

The USA is ready for a Black, Woman, Chinese, Indian, Native American, Korean, Eskimo, or whatever, President. But such a candidate must have the right ideas and otherwise have what it takes to be President.

>>" so the private religious beliefs of anyone running for office should not be a factor,... "<<

When the office is Mayor, Congressman, Senator or Governor, I have less problem with that position and religious beliefs but when that office is Commander in Chief of 10,000 nukes and the largest most lethal military the world has ever seen with a budget greater than the rest of the world combined then religious beliefs just as any other beliefs and ideas definitely apply in my mind.

We saw a VP candidate be dismissed because of a couple of electro shocks but somehow someone who speaks in tongues and says her god favors our wars is given a free ride because of something such as "Faith" no matter how abnormal this type of behavior might be.

We have just had a real experience with someone who has that kind of control and he said his "god told me to attack Saddam and I did".

Sorry, not when you want to be Commander in Chief.
