I'm an art director. My company did the inflight magazine for American Airlines for many years.

While AmericanWay may not hold the editorial esteem (as in "self") that The Atlantic Monthly does, I can assure you that the art director of the pub is the one who more than likely conspired with Ms. Greenberg.

One of the art director's role is to develop the visual solution of any given story and assign the creative (whether it's illustrative or photographic).

Of course the Editor/Publisher is at the top of the food chain and is ultimately responsible, the deed was probably done and into production before the top kahunas knew what was actually happening.

And yes, she has put a couple of holes in her wheels of success.
