It is a fact that a lot of people believe he is Muslim. I encountered a 75-year old lady who is an office manager where I was doing some work that made reference to it.

But this is his own doing somewhat. When he made the remark on Stephanopolis show last week, even though George corrected him, the way he said it was just too easy. It actually looked as though he really has a Muslim background.

Also, a lot of people believe if you're born Muslim, which he was, then it is something that you don't discard that easily. Combine that with his propensity for lying and Rev. Wright's anti-Americanism, I can see why they make the mistake.

Finally, he clearly is sympathetic toward Muslims, and many people feel that Muslims attacked us and anyone who is a Muslim sympathizer is a hazard to Americans.

And the name doesn't help.
