Google Lisi, you can download a pdf of his paper. Skip all the math if you need to, just read the description and look at the graphs. You will at least come to appreciate the startling thing he is doing, which is linking a very fundamental branch of math (Lie Algebras, and the E8 group which is special) to the Standard Model. Look E8 up in Wikipedia for that matter.

One interesting point is that something called "triality" keeps popping up in what looks like a fundamental way, and he currently has no explanation for this. I'd be delighted if it actually were something fundamental, because then conservatives could see a link with "Trinity" in the final theory of everything!

Reminds me of another thing I've hoped for, which is one of the theories on abiogenesis. In this theory, the first replicators occur on certain quasi crystalline substances, namely clays! Thus the Genesis account of God forming man from clay, could have, in a slight metaphor, come true at last, which I suspect would go a long ways towards bringing creationists to accept modern biology. I still hold out some hope for that, but the theory is getting a little long in the tooth, without convincing success.

The difference between wishes and science...
