god you are naive, look at the Gov of MD, hell the Clinton's. they not only fired political appointees but live long government workers

Yes...and McCain, alas, has moved into a tie or even ahead of Obama.

Politics is like WAR. There really isn't any second place prize. The guy that loses this election isn't going to get nominated again. McCain because he is too old and Obama because he will always be considered thereafter as the guy that lost the one that "couldn't be lost".

When Bush ran he talked about not getting involved with other country's problems and compassionate conservatism but he just said that stuff to try and squeeze out a few more votes. When he got into office he just threw all that stuff out the window and did his own thing. BOTH of these guys will do the same.

If we have learned anything, it's that we can't predict what sort of President a guy will be based on what he says in his campaign for the job. I'D prefer that we went back to the days when the Party Insiders got together to pick the nominees.
