That deserves to be posted: Dodd postpones hearing on Fannie and Freddie

September 15, 2008
Categories: Housing crisis

Senate Banking Committee Chairman Chris Dodd has postponed a hearing on the government bailout of mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac scheduled for Tuesday.

Dodd made the announcement in a news release. He failed to give a reason for the cancellation.

Both Treasury Secretary Henry M. Paulson and Federal Housing Finance Agency Director James B. Lockhart III were scheduled to testify.

A makeup date for the hearing has not been announced.

UPDATE: Dodd has finally released a statement on the latest economic turmoil and on the hearing:

“The economic crisis facing our country is deepening, as we saw over the weekend with the failure of Lehman Brothers and the sale of Merrill Lynch," Dodd said. "To fully understand the implications of these events, we need to learn more about the Administration’s involvement, and its plans going forward. At the Treasury Secretary’s request, I have postponed tomorrow’s hearing."

UPDATE II: A banking committee aide tells the Crypt many on the panel were quite surprised that Paulson canceled his appearance on Capitol Hill, but honored a commitment to speak at the Brookings Institution on Tuesday.

"It is regrettable that the Secretary has said he is too engaged in the current crisis to come before the Congress, yet is available to give speeches on the same day he was scheduled to testify," the aide said. "Chairman Dodd intends to reschedule this hearing at the earliest opportunity and to continue to aggressively exercise the Committee’s oversight functions."

Dodd's still thinkks theres more time to get one more donation(bribe) out of them...probalby also going over all the info to try and cleanse it of reference to his name..or the other dems caught up in the same scam on the American economy. McCain should demand swift and open hearings to get to the bottom of this mess before the elections. but then again.. if the dems want to drag their feet.. that's ok... if GWB or the Repub's had drug their feet and those both failed.. the Dem's would be all over them.. along with their fawning idiots in the MSM.

So while he was blaming "the administration", did he also mention that he's the single biggest recipient of Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac lobbyist money??

Congress controlls the purse strings, not the administration. Dodd is just pointing one way, hoping we don't notice the other hand cramming money in his pocket while his toadies scrub his trail. Fannie and Freddie were corruption funnels that have been diverting our tax money into Democratic coffers for years. More than one Democrat has a "special" Fannie May account... that is, if they haven't declared bankruptsy on it yet. The judicial system is failing America when they let betrayers of the public trust get off with just a wrist tap. They steal millions and then just get fined a few thousand. Don't be so open minded that your brains fall out! btw - beware socialized health care americanthinker.com

Hmm, I'll go out on a limb and say his hearing will be no sooner than November 5th....the Dems gotta retain their positions of power before the lid is blown off of this scandal
