I understand that but... AIG ONLY ASKED for $40 billion.

I can understand Paterson chipping in with $20 billion. NY economy depends on Wall St and Paterson is a democrat.

What I don't understand is the Republican Free Economy Fed rushing in with 85 billion.

Well I guess I understand the motivation but it can't be economically explained.

I think Lehman gave them deny-ablity. They did this AIG deal because the election is in 2 months. The taxpayer is going to pay the bill. Someone else made a hell of a lot of money off this.

What ever. Tomorrow we are back to square one.
