<i.The reason is apparent: Davis was a known communist who belonged to a party subservient to the Soviet Union. In fact, the 1951 report of the Commission on Subversive Activities to the Legislature of the Territory of Hawaii identified him as a CPUSA member. What's more, anti-communist congressional committees, including the House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC), accused Davis of involvement in several communist-front organizations.

And we all know what a model of rectitude HUAC was.

Yeah, I know, they're dancing in the streets in Moscow.

BP -

You may find that revelation horrifying and scandalous. I do not. Obama wrote about attending those meetings in his book, right? So not something he's trying to hide.

By the way, an understanding of Marxist theory doesn't make one a communist, nor does having a friendship with a communist make you one. They're not like vampires, you know.

- Allen

PS: The article says "What's more, anti-communist congressional committees, including the House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC), accused Davis of involvement in several communist-front organizations.

Accused? Are accusations proof now? From that article, I don't know if I can accept the assertion that Frank was a communist.

Communists????

BOO! I'M SCARED!

Heck, even Communists are not Communists anymore. Haven't been for almost 20 years now, maybe even 40.

Have some fun; go watch Jimmy Cagney in "One, Two, Three"

Peripetchikoff: No formula, NO DEAL!
C.R. MacNamara: OK, NO DEAL!
Borodenko: We do not need you! If we want Coca-cola, we invent it ourselves!
C.R. MacNamara: Oh, yeah? In 1956 you flew a bottle of Coke to a secret laboratory in Sverdlosk. A dozen of your top chemists went nuts trying to analyze the ingredients. Right?
Mishkin: No comment!
C.R. MacNamara: And in 1958, you planted two undercover agents in Atlanta to steal the formula. And what happened? They both defected! And now they're successful businessmen in Florida packaging instant borscht. Right?
Peripetchikoff: No comment!
C.R. MacNamara: Last year you put out a cockamamie imitation "Kremlin-kola!" You tried it out in the satellite countries, but even the Albanians wouldn't drink it. They used it for SHEEP DIP! RIGHT?
Mishkin: No comment!
C.R. MacNamara: So either get down to business or get off the pot!

and

C.R. MacNamara: Cigarette? Cigar?
Peripetchikoff: Here, take one of these.
C.R. Macnamara: Thanks. Hm, 'Made in Havana'.
Peripetchikoff: We have trade agreement with Cuba. They send us cigars, we send them rockets.
C.R. Macnamara: Good thinking.

C.R. MacNamara: You know something? You guys got cheated. This is a pretty crummy cigar.
Peripetchikoff: Do not worry. We send them pretty crummy rockets.

These kinds of things are as predictable as fall following summer. The Muslim tag isn't working so let's work the traditional McCarthy bit. That all powerful communist party stuff. I wonder if there are three folk in the US left.

And HUAC. What a waste to post this stuff.

Read my post on the Rosenberg's. The whole tone is once again about our civil liberties.. . being intolerant because of prejudices.. Also the guilt by association which was the
agenda of the fifties... If you were with a communist you were one too.

I think we have to stop this kind of thinking. It is perverted and does not serve the country that we should be...

In a Democracy a person in guilty when charged and even in some cases as in the Simpson trial the guilty get off..But that is our legal system.

Please do not fall into the trap of labeling someone because they attend a meeting or organization that is labeled
by prejudices..

Did you check this out with that organization fact something or other that John posted yesterday. I tend to believe very little this day that is politically motivated to make each candidate look bad. I read stuff on PFP that I can scarcely grasp as true that Hillary cancelled an appearance because Sarah Palin was invited. I doubt this was the reason. But the RW takes this out of context of the real reason if true and blows it into a major story.

The other story I find impossible to believe is that Obama tried to slow down the Iraq war... in his visit.

I think all this is just hype, propaganda bordering on slander.

You know none of the candidates are bad people but to read what is posted about each one they are terrible people devoted to the destruction of our economic system, the 2nd amendment,
or do away from abortion.. etc.

Build on fabrications and distort the truth and you have what this campaign is all about.

Bridge Player, I read your little innuendo post and thought you ought to read a comment relating that, "Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin will meet with foreign leaders next week at the United Nations, a move to boost her foreign-policy credentials, a Republican strategist said."

Enjoy it, I did. Ed

"Then after she goes to the UN for an hour to “meet foreign leaders” and establish her security/foreign policy credentials, McCain will take her to a hospital, so she can establish her “health care” credentials; then they will go out in the street and meet a whole bunch of African-Americans, Hispanics, and Asians to check off the “diversity” credentials; then they can ride the subway for one stop to clarify her “infrastructure” credentials; and then, finally, she can use her ATM card at a bank branch down on Wall Street so she can demonstrate her expertise on the financial markets.

God, I swear you can’t make this up."
