Again, the piece said both that populism had "infected" the left before it infected the right, and that liberals are elitists. I think there's a clear contradiction there. I don't see how referring to historical sub-groups of the left, which preceded the "infection" of populism anyway, would dissuade anyone from seeing the contradiction in Brooks' thinking. It was Brooks, wasn't it? It's been so long now that I can't recall. - Allen
