VINTER, I wouldn't waste your time with American Spirit. He deals in half-truths and never admits to an error. He wouldn't recognize a fact that is at odds with his "beliefs" if it smacked him in the ass. Petraeus did not resign, he was promoted. As Commander of the United States Central Command, Petraeus still has overall responsibility for Iraq. en.wikipedia.org American Spirit just returned from a two month suspension for threatening SI members with death. Apparently, he did not use that time to attend anger management classes. You may recall that when he was pimping John Edwards on this thread he openly suggested that it might not be a bad thing for Edwards to stay in the race in the even that Obama was assassinated. Petreus stepped down, before Iraq collapses. Because the Surge was a temporary expensive bandaid and was totally unsustainable. Just like the whole Bush economy. Short-term surges in exchange for longterm pain. The Sunnis just made a dramatic move after the SHias rejected them. Only HUGE US bribes will keep the sides apart now, and Afghanistan is coming apart at the seams too. All because of reckless dishonest misleadership by Bush-Cheney and using our troops and war for political propaganda purposes. I'm sure Petreus is disgusted with Bush-Cheney. He was used and used and used. Same as Colin Powell.
