yea, they changed the SHO rules today, but they left the uptick rule unchanged. This is whent he Hedge funds took over th short market and started all this stupid downside stuff.

Why the SEc ignores teh uptick rule is beyond me.

IMHO - shorts have caused us to focus on ONLY making money, no matter what the actual VALUE that we all create. So anyone who creates value has no chance against a short seller who is going to take all your profits and hard work away from one giant rumor for a day. I would rather we take the shorts and limit the entire market so that we have a much more conservative constructive market in play where increasing value is what gets paid for and not destroying value.

(FYI - uptick rule - Prior to about 2 years ago, you had to wait for a single buy uptick before a stock could be shorted beyond a certain limit. SEC changed that to allow shorts to short until 0 wihtout an uptick at all, so shares like Bear STerns and Lehmans and AIG would NEVER have gone down as far as they have.)

Coordinated bear raids on the ones most exposed to CDS risk is my guess. Absolutely brutal. But some are going to make unbelievable profits out of this.

Got gold?
