Gross effect yes. Net effect, not so much.


Not a strawman, there are a lot of people who believe those things.


I suppose in a nation of 300mil+ you can find enough individuals to possibly qualify the number as "a lot". But the percentage is insignificant, and the percentage of politicians, commentators, or other major figures in political debates is even smaller.

Lots of people think taxes are too high, or that the government does a lot of negative things and doesn't always help.

Few people (at least as a percentage) thing the government never helps, or that taxes should not exist at all.
