My thoughts EXACTLY.

Palin was well on her way to correctly handling this situation so that it would cause her minimal political damage --- up until the McCain national team screwed it up for her.

A lot of truth to the old saying that 'the cover-up is worse then the original offense'.

(I guess they believe they may be able to slow-walk the investigation long enough to run out the clock... so there is no official conclusion to the investigation until AFTER the election.)
