Leading Taiwan IC packaging and testing companies are expected to see their revenues slide 5% in general in the fourth quarter of this year after posting a low single-digit growth in the third quarter, according to sources at the companies.

Siliconware Precision Industries (SPIL) is expected to see its revenues decline 3-5% sequentially in the fourth quarter due to weak economic conditions and a conservative attitude of its PC clients, said sources at Macquarie Securities.

SPIL has seen its revenues continue growing since July with a prospect to hit a new high in September, buoyed by orders from Qualcomm and MediaTek, according to market sources.

SPIL has also forecast that its revenues are likely to grow 4-7% sequentially in the third quarter, with market sources predicting that SPIL will be able to sustain its high-end revenues target.

Other major players, including Advanced Semiconductor Engineering (ASE), King Yuan Electronics (KYEC) and Greatek Electronics, are also expected to suffer a sequential decline of 5% on average in revenues in the fourth quarter due to weak demand from the PC, handset and display sectors, the sourced added.
