Was Lehman one of the banks that was shorting gold? I remember JP Morgan and HSBC but I don't remember the other 7 or so odd banks with large short positions in gold.

In my view it is very plausible that there are large gold shorts being forced to unwind. I also think you will see international gold buying that really catches fire -- if and as the price of gold keeps on marching upwards. As a safe haven, gold is well placed at this moment in time. And it is 'positional' in the extreme. If and as more and more large scale investors actually take delivery -- oh boy, watch out.
