No one is charging more than $5 when the going rate is $3.50. If they did so they wouldn't have any sales. When they are charging $5 the going rate is $5. I don't know that I'd call it nice, its not done in order to benefit others, its motives are for the benefit of the seller not the buyer. But it does in fact benefit the buyer, so its not "anti-nice". and in many states, its illegal. Nothing requires states to act rationally or justly. Price controls are a good example of when they are doing neither.

Most stations around here are shut down now. My wife got gas from Krogers for $3.35 - pretty cheap (a normal price) but they always are. I got gas from an independent station run by Pakistanis for $4.55 a gallon the next day. Yes, he may have been taking advantage of the situation or maybe it cost him more than normal. Big deal. I'm not gonna cry over it. If ya wanta search you can beat that - I was on my way to work and didnt want to take the time looking. Now I see a Raceway is open and will know where to buy cheap from now on.
