Collapse is a rare event, but the past few weeks remind me of some cartoon of hapless firemen running back and forth trying to catch a person in their tightly held canvas tarp. They run left, they run right, they back up, they run forward.

Seems like we're getting close to the inevitable, doesn't it? But not quite. One more gust of wind, and he firemen move left and to the right *splat*.
