I wrote her retirement fund managers (at her company) and asked them to add the vanguard precious metals fund about five years ago (before it closed to new investors) pointing out that nearly everything else would suffer for a few years. But they just chucked my letter in the garbage.

I put some of her assets in PMs, by minimizing the 401k (just enough to get the full match) and by using the decrease to fund a Roth IRA.
