The military has some of the same sort of problems that plague other government programs. But its kind of hard to imagine a private sector alternative that would work well, and I don't think you (or almost anyone else) would support just going without. The size, makeup, policies, strategy etc. of the military could be changed in all sorts of different ways, but its pretty clear we need to have a military.
