There is no need to keep a secret unless it covers something you don't want people to know.

The audit of the FNG was only 21% completed as of 1981. When it was done, it was said to cover 80% of the owned gold in the US. This is strange because no one asked them to audit other people's gold, just the stuff that was supposed to be in the vault. That should take a few dozen men a few weeks to count bricks and weigh them, with the odd brick tested for actual purity. There should be 103,717 100 troy lb bricks. The CDN mint uses 400 lb bricks as they are harder to steal.
