Democrats are such a "splintered" bunch. The "moneyed people" in the Democratic Party are usually way to the left, while the working class people that the Democrats need to win are usually slightly left of center to slightly right of center. But they ARE close to the center. That's why a candidate like Clinton can appeal to MOST Democrats because they are at least comfortable in the populist role, but guys like McGovern, Dukakis, Gore, Kerry and Obama can't even "play one on TV". BTW...I don't even count Mondale as a candidate. He was more a sacrificial lamb than anything else.
