Lets come back in ten years and revisit this discussion.

Personally I think we have reached "peak oil production rates". We need about 3 to 5 years to confirm my hunch. I wish we had a glut of excess production available but I sure don't see it!

Li batteries have come a long ways in just a few years so I'm very optimistic on battery development now. Batteries didn't go anywhere for many years because there was very little spent on R & D. With the advent of cell phones in the late 80's and laptops spending on R & D has exploded. That bodes very well for the electric car.

I'm banking on another storage technology for electric cars other than batteries.... It's totally solid state.. No chemical reaction.
