MCains folks are now saying that he purposely dissed Spain in that interview i guess because they pulled out of iraq. Thats such a flagrant lie. His interview wasnt bad about latin america. He thought the questioner asked about mexico and not spain. Thats the minor error he had to fess up about. He wasnt man enough to admit a minor gaffe.

Not silly at all. People vote for presidents because of that general type of feeling all the time. Palin's helped McCain recover from his deficit he had compared to Obama for personal qualities more than policies as well. Too much can be made of this factor. The majority of voters vote for things like political party, ideology, views on specific political issues etc., or they vote for perceived character or ability, but that's "a majority", not "an overwhelming majority".
