Judging from the Saddlebrook interviews, I was impressed with McCain's ability to answer to issues directly. His first sentence provides the direct answer and then he proceeds to elaborate. Considering that generally a listeners attention span is the first 15 seconds after the question, McCain's style is very powerful in getting his message across.

I am hoping Obama picks up on that approach and abandons his current one where he initially sets off on a philosophical discourse.

I do agree that a McCain slip (proverbial Poles situation of Gerald Ford during debate with Carter) would be disastrous. What I would like to see is Obama come up with a line similar to "And you are no Jack Kennedy" when McCain starts to talk about him being the change agent.

And if McCain were to use the line that Reagan used against Mondale, I would be interested to see how Obama tackles that.
