Even if he saw the problem, he did not solve it, and neither did the Republicans. Why? Because they cannot conceive of a solution that involves more government regulation. They see it as an evil that stiffles business.

I'd love to see how McCain would fix this mess. Earlier this week, he was against regulation, against the bailout of AIG, and thought that the economy was fundamentally strong. He is anti-regulation - in fact, on record as a deregulator - so no solution that involves regulation will fit his philosophy.

What? A commission to study the problem? An RTC as an expensive bandaid? The root problems must be addressed, and the Republicans don't have it in their DNA to come up with a solution.
