"How many small businessmen are making $1,400,000 a year average in the top 1 percent?" Biden responded. "Give me a break. I remind my friend John McCain what he said when Bush called for war and tax cuts he said, 'it is immoral, immoral to take a nation to war and not have anybody pay for it.'"

"I am so sick and tired of this phoniness," Biden continued. "The truth of the matter is that we are in trouble, and the people who do not need a new tax cut should be willing as patriotic Americans to understand the way to get this economy back up on their feet is to give middle class taxpayers a break. We take the tax cut they're getting and we give it to the middle class."

College student op/ed:

"Maybe it makes sense that John McCain picked Sarah Palin to be his Vice Presidential candidate. At first glance, it didn't add up that he would select somebody as inexperienced as her when a large percentage of his argument against Obama is that he isn't ready to lead at such a young age. However, if you take a closer look at Palin, you can see how she fits the George W. Bush/Dick Cheney mold that was established over the last eight years. Palin appeals to the Christian Right which carried George W. Bush to victories in the last two elections. She is as pro-life as humanly possible, by not supporting an abortion in any circumstance including incest and rape. Palin is against sex education in schools and wants "abstinence" only taught. You know the rest of her positions because they fit the format the Christian Right demanded out of John McCain, so I won't bother stating how she feels about same sex relations and creationism being taught in science classes. Palin really doesn't have any foreign relations experience, but then again neither did George W. Bush. She got her start in politics as the member of a party whose main goal was to have Alaska secede from the United States. As a matter of fact, Palin didn't even have a passport in July of 2007. Yet, that's alright; according to Republicans she is just a "hockey mom," a common lady of the people, who you could see as your next door neighbor. Why would you want some Ivy-league elitist running your country, when you could have your neighbor do it? I don't know about you, but I don't see being "elite" at something as a negative. I don't really want an average person one heartbeat away from running the country, whose political career consists of being mayor of a town with more trees than people, and being governor of Alaska for two years. She does fit the newly established Republican mold of secrecy and cronyism however. In Alaska, Palin made a habit of hiring under-qualified former classmates for major government positions. She hired five of her previous schoolmates for major positions in administration and gave them jobs which paid substantially higher than their previous ones. We saw how that kind of thinking paid off when one of George W. Bush's old pals handled Hurricane Katrina, didn't we? Palin had a common practice of hiding information and forcing staff members to use private e-mail accounts that couldn't be traced, which sounds very Dick Cheney like. Another Bush/Cheney tradition that Palin embodies is her propensity to be missing in action. Records show that since taking office in 2007 she spent 312 nights in her Wasilla home, which is over 600 miles from the governor's mansion. Mayors and lawmakers became so frustrated with her ignorance and lack of attendance, they wore "Where's Sarah?" pins at a recent legislative session. John McCain needed somebody who could lock down all those Bush Republicans who weren't sure about him due to his old "maverick" ways. He found somebody in Sarah Palin who could win those people over with her religious extremism, lack of knowledge in foreign policy, and "common woman" persona. Just another average person to do a below average job in a highly important position…way to go Republicans."
