>>> Obama will probably make political hay out of this crisis

It may be hard to do with his top economic adviser being one of the people who is, apparently, culpable in having created the crisis.

Once in office, Obama and Biden will probably preside over the biggest expansion of federal government, all in the name of saving us from ourselves.

Government regulation of the financial industry, in it's essence, is no different than setting speed limits on roads ("saving us from ourselves" as you say, or saving us from each other).

Imagine if they "deregulated" speed limits on all roads? You and I would make safe decisions, but there are a lot of others that wouldn't. And we wouldn't be spared the repercussions, as we won't be spared the repercussions from the financial "crisis".
